What is Listed Building Consent?

Listed building consent is required to carry out work to a Listed Building which will affect its special value for listing purposes – check with your District Council who hold a record of Listed Buildings - almost always needed for any major works – may be necessary for minor alterations and sometimes even repairs and maintenance, or if the use of the building is changed – even work such as repointing and repainting, for which planning consent is not required, can require listed building consent - including replacement windows and doors. Identical repairs in matching materials may not require consent - should always check with the Council’s Listed Buildings Officer before you do any work – can sometimes require consent for work that doesn’t directly affect the building but that affects its setting.
