Building and Planning
I have hired a company to do some building work. They say that they do not need to contact the Local Authority to check the work. Is this right?
Several industry self-assessment schemes have been set up and these are designed to reduce pressure on local building control and to increase compliance with building regulations. They allow an installer, who is registered as a competent person, to certify that work is compliant with building regulations without inspection – certification relates only to specific work, e.g. if you have an extension built, and the windows receive a FENSA certificate, then that does not automatically mean that the rest of the conservatory is compliant. You should also ask to see proof that the installer is a competent person – don’t assume that they are just because they say they are.Other frequently asked questions
