The short answer is no.  Unless you have actually exchanged contracts neither side is tied into anything.  The seller may be desperate to move quickly now but it could all change tomorrow.  If the sale collapsed then you could end up homeless. Sometimes a seller may insist and you may have no choice to keep the purchase process going.  So if you give notice make sure you have alternative accommodation just in case.
