What is an Inland Revenue Land Transaction Return Form?

This is a twelve page form usually completed by the conveyancer.  Most firms make a charge for this but you can do it yourself although it is very complex so we do not recommend it.  It is sent to HMRC with SDLT and gives personal information about you and details of the transaction.  It must be received by HMRC with SDLT within 30 days of the completion date or penalty charges will be incurred.   You are responsible for ensuring that the information given is correct, even if you only sign the form and you can face fines and/or prosecution for giving false information.  You are also personally responsible for filing the form in time, even if conveyancer is doing it for you. HMRC will pursue you for any penalties. www.hmrc.gov.uk/so for further info
