What is the Council of Mortgage Lenders Handbook?

The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) Handbook sets out lenders’ requirements for conveyancers acting on their behalf in a new mortgage. Conveyancers regularly encounter problems that need specific instructions from the client lender to resolve. The CML Handbook is an attempt to reduce the amount of referrals back to the lender by providing specific instructions on what to do in certain situations. Common examples include whether a lender will accept search insurance and the specific title deeds required following completion. The Handbook greatly reduces the amount of correspondence between lenders and conveyancers, much of which would have covered similar areas. This makes transactions significantly smoother and reduces workload across the board.
