My buyers have asked me to extend my lease. How do I do this?

Speak to your conveyancer – will need to determine who will pay for extension and other costs – if the property has been valued at a reduced price because of a short lease then the buyers should pay.

 

Will need to contact your landlord to ask – they can either agree for an appropriate premium or say no – if they say no or ask for too high a price then you can challenge it at leasehold tribunal. Can be a lengthy and expensive process - if buyer requires it to be done before exchange this can delay the transaction by many months.
