The area near Eastern Road, Brighton has been selected as part of a new Government initiative designed to give residents more say in their local communities.
The area is amongst 11 nationwide that have been chosen to pilot the new ‘Neighbourhood Charter’ scheme. Feedback from these communities will be passed to central Government with a view to changing community managment policy.
The area was selected following successful partnership work between residents, community groups, the Council, police and local service providers.
A series of initiatives are helping to improve the area; they were formulated in response to a survey carried out last year. The initiatives include a community 'clean up and green up', the placing of artwork in the boarded windows of the Lion and Unicorn pub and a 'meet the residents' drop in centre.
John Pippard, Resident Chair of the Eastern Road Area Partnership said: “I am delighted that Eastern Road Partnership has been chosen as a pathfinder. I hope that it will enable the partnership to further strengthen its work in our neighbourhood”. |
