Christmas spirit may be under threat - what with festive high street lights condemned by the forces of "elf and safety" - but not all is lost: Santa's little helpers have evidently been hard at work in trying to have you ensconced in a new home before Christmas Eve.
Of course, underneath the fake, frothy beard, it's hard-nosed business that prevails. So, while a chill wind is blowing through the property market, housebuilders are tempting would-be buyers with a tinsel-wrapped range of sweeteners. Some will even merrily stump up stamp duty as an inducement to buy - if you buy now…
At "Newhall" in Harlow, Essex, the latest phase, North Chase, with its three-and four-bedroom garden villas, has a sound system worth £3,500 as part of the deal. Near Old Harlow, with Harlow Town station a couple of miles away and services to Liverpool Street in 30 minutes, prices start at £435,000.
