It is reassuring to know that not everyone has been hit so hard by the property slump. It would seem that the Queen has done rather well, seeing a $500 million boost in her £6.5 billion property portfolio over the last six months.
Management company Crown estate put the success down to the diversity of the portfolio, which has spread risk across the market.
Roger Bright, chief executive of the Crown Estate, said: "Overall values have gone down over the last 18 months, but ours have held up better than many others. This is because of the diversified nature of the portfolio, which includes agricultural land and the marine estate as well as commercial property."
In the past six months there has been an increase in demand for seabed real estate and farm land, both of which feature prominently in the crown portfolio. The demand is in part driven by a demand for renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind farms. |
