A survey carried out by building supplier Jewson has shown that 36% of people still do not know what an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is despite HIPs being required for all homes, irrespective of size.
The certificates are a needed as part of a HIP which must be put together before a home is put on the market. The EPC rates your home on energy efficiency and was introduced in an attempt to tackle household Carbon emissions.
The survey also showed that 82 per cent of people believe that the cost of making green improvements is too great.
Steve Millward, sustainability and quality director for Jewson, said: “People like the idea of being green and half are willing to pay 20 per cent more on sustainable solutions but more than 90 per cent don’t understand how to make energy efficient choices.” |
